There is no need to open the bread maker midway through the baking to add the ingredients. Opening the unit when the baking is going on can ruin your rise.

The dispenser can handle up to 2/3 of a cup and will release the fruits and nuts at the right time. However, if you are making a 2.5-lbs. loaf, the dispenser might not hold enough nuts and fruits. The raisin may become too warm while inside the dispenser and end up sticking inside. As a result, it may fail to be dispensed into the dough.

Note: You cannot use the automatic dispenser when making two 1-lb. loaves. The feature only works when you are making a 2.5-lb. bread.
